Robert LuPone has passed away at the age of 76. He was an American actor and artistic director who worked on stage, in film, and in television.

Robert LuPone was born to Angela Louise and Orlando Joseph LuPone in Brooklyn, New York City, and was raised in Northport, New York on Long Island.

His father Orlando is a school administrator and English teacher at Walt Whitman High School in Huntington, Long Island. His mother Angela is a library administrator at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.

On his mother’s side, he is the great-great-nephew of 19th-century Spanish-born Italian opera singer Adelina Patti. Though he was born in New York City and identifies as American, both parents are Italian. His father’s side came from Abruzzo, while his mother’s side is Sicilian.

He is not his parents’ only child. His younger sister is actress and singer, Patti LuPone, who is best known for her work in musical theater. Owing to her successful career, she has won three Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, and two Grammy Awards. She was also a 2006 inductee to the American Theater Hall of Fame.
